Season Opener: Celebrating Popular Favorites

Musica Viva proudly opens its 16th season featuring popular favorites for our audience's pleasure including Haydn "Gypsy" Piano Trio in G Major, Faure Piano Quartet in c minor, and the Schubert "Trout" Quintet in A Major for piano and strings. Avanti Ensemble members David Ehrlich, violin, Ben Wyatt, cello, and Teresa Ehrlich, piano, are joined by special guests Amadi Azikiwe, viola and Samuel Suggs, double bass.

This concert will get you in the mood for romance with a concert of couples. Musica Viva welcomes for the first time husband and wife duo from Israel, Vera Vaidman-Krasovsky, violin/viola, and Emanuel Krasovsky, piano. They will join David Ehrlich, violin, Teresa Ehrlich, piano, Ariana Wyatt, soprano, and Ben Wyatt, cello. Music includes the passionate and virtuosic Brahms Piano Quartet in g minor ("Gypsy"), music for piano 4-hands, and more!
Meccore String Quartet: The Next Generation

Musica Viva welcomes for the first time the Meccore String Quartet from Poland. Praised for its breathtaking performances, flawless technique, and visionary interpretations, the Meccore Quartet won second prize - and three additional special prizes - at the London International String Quartet Competition at Wigmore Hall in April 2012. The quartet also has received top prizes at the Paolo Borciani Competition (2011), the International Chamber Music Competition in Weiden (2010), and the Max Reger International Chamber Music Competition (2009). This exciting evening of music includes works by Debussy, Penderecki, and Grieg.

The music of Annelies is based on the text of The Diary of Anne Frank and is presented in partnership with Hillel at Virginia Tech for Holocaust Remembrance Day.

Due to the overwhelming emotional and powerful audience response from Musica Viva's 2015 performance of this work, it is being presented again, and this time in the beautiful Moss Arts Center. Music by James Whitbourn, based on The Diary of Anne Frank, is described as devastatingly beautiful. Conducted by Larry Wyatt, performers include the Colla Voce Choir from the University of South Carolina; Ariana Wyatt, soprano; David Ehrlich, violin; Ben Wyatt, cello; Teresa Ehrlich, piano and, Phillip Paglialonga, clarinet.
